Why is family medicine important?

Family physicians provide comprehensive healthcare across America’s diverse demographic landscape. To become a family physician, a medical doctor must complete a three-year residency during which they gain in-depth training across a human lifespan from birth to death. Physicians receive additional qualifications if they choose specialized concentrations such as adolescent medicine, emergency medicine and faculty development. Post-residency, these doctors provide personalized care for chronic conditions ranging from heart disease, stroke and hypertension to diabetes, cancer, and asthma as well as preventive care in checkups, health assessments and immunization tests.

Family medicine is a valuable field of medicine that sets itself apart from other specialties in its broad approach to patient care. Family physicians are specialists trained to provide comprehensive primary health care for people of all ages, which is unique among medical specialties. This includes caring for infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors, meaning family physicians develop long-lasting relationships with patients as they journey through life.

These same family physicians are responsible for providing the majority of healthcare services to rural and urban communities with underserved populations who lack access to guardians of wellness like physicians or hospitals due to constrained financial capacities. They strive to foster healthy lifestyles through educational counseling while conducting routine screenings on newborns and elderly patients. The priority objective of every family physician is ensuring their patient achieves optimal physical health at any age in their life so that their quality of life remains high throughout it all.

Not only do family physicians treat any specific ailment or disease, but they also understand how community-level factors and social determinants of health can affect the patient’s overall well-being. As a result, family physicians are often people’s first contact with the health care system when a new issue arises or when follow-up care is needed after seeing a specialist or being discharged from the hospital. They serve as knowledgeable guides for their patients in navigating what can otherwise be an overwhelming and complex system of health care providers.

Urgent Care

Urgent Care Medicine is a unique form of medical care that offers outpatient treatments to individuals who experience acute and chronic illnesses or injuries that require more than basic first aid. Patients with complex and unusual conditions are typically seen in urgent care settings as an alternative to waiting for hours at the hospital Emergency Room or when their regular physician is unavailable or unable to offer timely appointments.  Like family medicine doctors, urgent care physicians have broad and comprehensive fund of knowledge which makes them capable of providing excellent healthcare services in these situations.

Typical Services

Urgent Care in Castle Rock is a vital part of the healthcare system, offering quick and convenient medical services for those in need. One of their most important functions is to provide treatment for a wide range of medical emergencies. Staff at these centers are trained to diagnose and treat many illnesses, such as sprains, strains, fractures, lacerations, burns, back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea as well as handle allergic reactions and asthma attacks.

Founders Family Medicine Medical Center in Castle Rock can serve as an in-between for mild to moderate illnesses and injuries when patients do not have time to wait for doctor’s office appointments or may be too severe for home treatment. By diagnosing and treating these medical issues in a timely fashion urgent care providers can help stabilize the patient’s condition until they can receive more comprehensive treatment from a specialist or primary care physician.

Extended Hours

The primary purpose of an Urgent Care in Castle Rock is to provide patients with access to quality medical attention outside the typical hours of their primary healthcare provider, without the expensive costs associated with an emergency department visit. A 2021 study from the National Institute of Health (The impact of urgent care centers on nonemergent emergency department visits – PMC (nih.gov)) found that the average cost of care at an urgent care center is substantially lower ($156) than a similar treatment provided at the emergency room ($570).  Our Castle Rock Urgent Care Doctors and providers strive to ensure that each patient receives the optimal level of care; this includes working in close communication and collaboration with specialists and primary health providers. It is important to remember, however, that urgent care should not be utilized as a replacement for your regular physician – as regular medical checkups are still necessary to maintain overall good health.
